TITLES
you to group together and ungroup individual objects (or, if you prefer, elements) that
you create in the tool.
The Alignment menu allows you to align objects relative to the Title tool space as well
as within the object’s given space.
Title Tool GUI
When teaching the Title tool to others, I usually start on the first button and pretty
much describe them all. So let’s get started.
The arrow tool is pretty self-explanatory. It allows you to grab and move
objects in your title.
The T button is your text tool. When selected, you can enter text right onto
the interface.
The hand tool is a holdover from the days when you could not place the
entire video screen in the interface. It’s not really useful today, unless you have to
make your Title tool smaller to fit it on your screen. It was created in the days
when monitors were of extremely low resolution. If you have one of those moni-
tors, do yourself a favor and donate it to a school or a museum.
The three geometric buttons allow you to place squares, circles (as
well as ovals), lines, and arrows on your title. They don’t look like much, but
you can come up with some fairly creative titles using them. These objects can
be drawn on-screen and saved as templates, which we’ll discuss later. To create
a perfect square or circle, hold down the Shift key before drawing. If you’ve
already drawn a square or circle, you can click it with the arrow key and, while
holding the Shift key, maintain its aspect ratio while making the circle or square
larger or smaller.
The styles button allows you to save and store fonts, shadows, fill
colors, and borders. You save styles by clicking the down arrow button. You can
also click the styles button and tear off the menu (Figure 7.6), expanding it to
reveal each saved style. When you click the downward pointing arrow, a menu
appears asking which aspects of the style that you wish to save. You can select
one or all of these options.
Note: When creating text,it’s a pain to move the mouse to the bottom of the title interface and switch
from the text button to the arrow button. A faster way to do this is to press the Alt or Option key on the key-
board and click. The text cursor turns to an arrow cursor so that you can instantly move the text rather than
mousing around the Title tool interface.
