Other Options

While selecting the Fast menu at the bottom left of the Timeline window, you might

have noticed quite a few other enticing options. These options include items that can

be displayed in the Timeline as well as the selection of display colors. Let’s take a

moment to look at these options.

Clip Frames Clip frames show a single first frame of all of the video segments in your

Timeline (see Figure 4.30). The clip frame appears at the left of each video segment.

Using the Clip Frames option will create a slower redraw of the Timeline in addition to

the others mentioned previously. This option is not available on Free DV, but the Film-

strip shows them anyway.

Clip Names Normally, the clip names are already selected and appear in your Time-

line. If you don’t want them displayed, select Clip Names, and they will disappear.

Clip Durations Clip durations allow you to see the running time of each individual clip

in your sequence, which works great when timing is precise. Select this option, and you

will see minutes and seconds (but not the number of frames) displayed on the Timeline

for each individual segment.

Source Names The source name refers to the tape name that you gave it when it was

captured. If you want to view the name of each tape in the Timeline, select this option.

Media Names The media name displays the actual name of each media file on your

media drive (see Figure 4.31). These files are somewhat cryptic, but you might have a

need to locate a file for deletion, location, or movement of media files. If that is the

case (I cannot honestly think of any other), you can use this display option.

Clip Comments (Xpress Pro Only) Any comments entered during capture can be dis-

played by selecting the Comments option on the Fast menu.
